I don’t like to speculate on the personal life of others, but it’s hard to ignore that this song was probably an insight into the state of Chris Cornell’s mind. “I won’t lie no more you can bet.” Apparently he also battled addiction at times throughout his life. something he held sacred? Maybe he had guilt about lying. Did he drop them by accident or on purpose? Did he drop a belief system or a way of life, i.e. I guess it’s things that he’s loved, lost, held sacred, and dropped. I wonder what Chris was trying to forget. But all of that new information doesn’t make our lives any easier. The mind loves feeding on new facts and ideas to chew like a dog on a bone.

If anything, we want to forget everything we know. Sometimes we just don’t want any new information. “Don’t wanna learn what I’ll need to forget.” What a great line. I believe that this takes time, but over time we become better at watching our minds. But what we do have the ability to do is to practice the skill of non-reaction and non-resistance. The more we try to forget about it the more it lingers with us. It’s like we don’t have the ability to stop the poisonous mental content from arising. We won’t look back.” We all try not to do this but it’s difficult. It seems like no matter how hard we try, we can’t forget about them. So often we get those unwanted thoughts that seem to come out of nowhere just to torment us.

This is another tune where I’m absolutely in love with the lyrics, because I think they touch on such a common issue. A woman peering out of her communist era apartment window, just gazing. Even seemingly mundane things become interesting. Instead of gawking at the main tourist attractions, it’s nice to draw pleasure from simple and innocuous activities and sights. I’d rather have absolutely no expectations and no idea what I’ll find. They’re not stressed or anxious like big city people. It’s nice to watch regular people go about their business. I also like to drive through small towns. Forget about fancy organized tours where everyone is taking the same pictures. Just get on a random bus and take it all the way around and back again, or get off somewhere and get another one. That is going to be one of my new favourite things to do while travelling from now on. “I walk the streets of Japan till I get lost, cuz it doesn’t remind me of anything.” I took a random bus around the city of Bangkok recently.
DOESN T REMIND ME OF ANYTHING FULL
Our surroundings get our full attention because everything is so new and different.Ĭhris Cornell sings about a bunch of stuff that’s seemingly random and pointless, but that’s the beauty of it. One of the great things about travel is that it shows us new and interesting things. That’s when it really resonated with me and I began to appreciate it so much more. These are some of the words that come to mind for “Doesn’t Remind Me.” I’ve always liked this song, but I really fell in love with it lately through my travels. Original, intelligent, meaningful, powerful, and revealing. What an amazing song this is, and I actually didn’t know how cool the music video is.
